HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. The concept of HypnoBirthing is not new, but rather a "rebirth" of the philosophy of birthing as it existed thousands of years ago and as it was recaptured in the work of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, an English obstetrician, who, in the 1920s was one of the first to forward the concept of natural birthing. The method teaches you that, in the absence of fear and tension, or special medical circumstances, severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labour. You will gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in perfect harmony - as they were designed to - when your body is sufficiently relaxed and you trust birth. You will learn how to achieve this kind of relaxation, free of the resistance that fear creates, and you will learn to use your natural birthing instincts for a calm, serene and comfortable birth.
HypnoBirthing will teach you:
∞ Fear release methods to overcome anxiety about the birth
∞ Self-hypnosis to induce deep relaxation whilst remaining totally present and in control
∞ Massage techniques to release endorphins, your body's natural anaesthetic
∞ Breathing techniques for relaxation and birth itself
∞ Visualisation exercises and affirmations to keep you grounded, serene and positive

HypnoBirthing® is suitable for first time mums and mums who've had kids before. It helps women who are scared of birth because they've never done it before, who are anxious because of a bad experience last time, or who just want a calmer, easier, more natural birth experience.
If you're pregnant, and looking for an alternative to the over-medicalised, pain-is-inevitable, "gimme all the drugs" mindset, then HypnoBirthing® is for you.
Where and when are the classes?
The HypnoBirthing programme is run over four weekly classes, each lasting approx two and a half hours. These can be done privately one-to-one in your own home, at your own schedule - this can be particularly beneficial as you will associate the relaxation techniques you learn with the place you will hopefully spend the most part of your labour. You will also be able to organise sessions when they best suit you, be that weekday evenings or at weekends.
Alternatively you can join a small group of parents-to-be for classes. Groups will be kept small, no more than four couples, and courses are popular so please contact me as soon as possible if you'd like to join a group class.
Wednesday evening classes at
BORN, Stoke Newington Church Street, N16
The next courses are:
Wednesday September 29th - October 20th 2010, starting at 7pm
Wednesday October 27th - November 17th 2010, starting at 7pm
Wednesday November 24th - December 15th 2010, starting at 7pm
Whilst I feel very strongly that having weekly classes is most beneficial - it gives you time to practice the techniques and allow your understanding and proficiency deepen, come back to me with questions and generally feel supported whilst learning about HypnoBirthing - I appreciate that not everyones' lives can accommodate such a commitment. If you're keen to learn HypnoBirthing please do contact me and we'll work out a way of me going through the syllabus with you in a way that suits you.

The answer is that, in principle, it's more important to do the course early so you have plenty of time to absorb the information and for it to become second nature rather than to have it fresh in your mind. The HypnoBirthing Institute suggests that you do it in the second trimester of pregnancy. Having said that, I know it has been successfully taught to a mother who gave birth two days later, so the real answer is that HypnoBirthing works, but you always run the risk if you leave it too late that the baby will arrive first, and then you'll wish you had done it sooner.
Does the fee cover both of us?
Yes, the fee covers the full course for mother and father (or birthing partner)
What else does the fee cover?
Included with the course is the HypnoBirthing book, the course CD, and a folder of practical handouts, and any telephone support you need right up until your baby arrives.
